9 tablespoons butter
12 ounces Lyle's Golden Syrup
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk


Preheat oven to 350º and butter a 9-inch round pan. Line the bottom and sides with parchment paper.

Melt the butter with the Lyle's syrup.

Sift together in a bowl the dry ingredients.

Pour the syrup and butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.

Add the egg and mild. Beat well. This is a very liquid batter. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes until just set in the center. Let sit for 10 minutes before removing from the pan.
